Dr. Ramakanth received his Ph.D. in sustainable active packaging materials and his M. Tech in Packaging Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, India. Prior to his graduate studies, he obtained his Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from J.N.T.U. Hyderabad.

Before joining Michigan State University, Dr. Ramakanth served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at IIT Roorkee from October 2024 to November 2025. He subsequently served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at IIT Hyderabad from November 2025 to January 2026. His background also encompasses significant industrial experience, having worked as an Executive at ALPLA India, where he handled large-scale extrusion and molding operations, and as a Technology Support Executive for envoPAP in Germany, developing biobased packaging solutions. His contributions to the field have been recognized with the "Young Researcher Award-2025" by the Asian Polymer Association. Additionally, he is a recipient of several prestigious fellowships, including the Commonwealth Split-Site Scholarship (UK), the IGSTC Industrial Exposure Fellowship (Germany), and the DAAD Scholarship (Germany).

Research Interests: Dr. Ramakanth’s research interests focus on active and intelligent packaging, active barriers, flexible packaging, biopolymers in packaging, advancements in food safety & quality, and cellulosic materials for packaging applications.
