20th Annual Animal Science Graduate Research Forum

The 20th Annual Animal Science Graduate Research Forum consisted of 12 oral presentations and 14 posters. Award winners included the following students:

MS 1st: Byungkyoo Park
(PI: Jyongkyoo Kim) Title: Lubabagron alters skeletal muscle transcriptional programs and nutrient partitioning in finishing beef steers

MS 2nd: Riley Barber
(PI: Michael VandeHaar) Title: Effects of fat supplementation using a 60/30 palmitic-oleic blend on productivity and greenhouse gas emissions in mid-lactation Holstein cows

MS 3rd: Ted Brooks
(PI: Tasia Kendrick) Title: Biometric monitoring and early detection for bovine leukemia virus infection in young dairy animals 

PhD 1st: Lynn Olthof
(PI: Barry Bradford) Title: Modeling a path forward for expanding U.S. dairy producers

PhD 2nd: Haylee Reisinger
(PI: Barry Bradford) Title: The effect of omega-3 fatty acid supplementation during the transition period on blood plasma inflammatory markers

PhD 3rd: Renee Harbowy
(PI: Brian Nielsen) Title: Efficacy of an oral chondroprotective supplement on stride length and lameness in aged geldings with chronic lameness

Outstanding Poster: Anna Munger
(PI: Jyongkyoo Kim) Title: Effects of citrulline and arginine supplementation on muscle-related gene expression and myotube formation in bovine myocytes

This event took place October 16 and was sponsored by COGS and the Department of Animal Science. Judges throughout the day: poster judges Dr. Jongkyoo Kim, Dr. Kwangwook Kim, and Dr. Miriam Weber Nielsen. Serving as oral judges were Dr. Augusto Madureira, Dr. Xufei Yang, and Dr. Jose Cibelli. The 2025 organizing committee consisted of Anna Munger, Mariah Jansen, Lautaro Garcia, and Dr. Brian Nielsen.
