Academic Interest
My research centers on the effect that cage free aviary designs have on laying hens and their animal welfare. Specifically, how easily hens are able to move between the vertical levels and how enclosed their nests are. I hope to help provide accessible and cost-effective solutions to farmers to advance animal welfare and improve egg productivity. Once I am done at MSU, I hope to move to zoo settings and to better the animal welfare of those captive animals through enrichment and clear signaling paradigms.
