Mark Williams Current Project: “Do phylogeny and meta-omic variation in nodule bacteriomes determine plant traits related to legume productivity? (USDA)”, which seeks to better understand microbial variation across soybean niches and especially nodules where Bradyrhizobium and other nodule invaders impact soybean growth and nitrogen fixation.

Zhou “Jo” Dong (top left) who recently completed his B.S. at Cornell University and has joined the Plant Pathology program at MSU to pursue a Ph.D. under Dr. Williams’ mentorship. Gayatri Vanamala (top right), a third-year Ph.D. student who is transferring to MSU from VT; Kevin Santiago Morales (Orange shirt), originally from Puerto Rico, recently joined us after winding up his PhD recently with the Sarah Lebeis lab. And guess what! he is also from the beautiful island of Puerto Rico! And Lennel Camuy-Velez (lower right), who has also joined us from the beautiful island of Puerto Rico.
