ABOUT

Babatope Akinyemi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Animal Science at Michigan State University. He is an agricultural economist whose work focuses on the behavioral and welfare economics of technology adoption in agriculture. His research examines how producers, consumers, and the broader public form preferences and makes decisions about agricultural innovations.

RESEARCH

Dr. Akinyemi’s current research addresses the social dimensions of precision livestock farming (PLF), including public acceptance, trust, willingness to pay, animal welfare, and the social license to operate of modern animal agriculture. He serves as Principal Investigator of the USDA NIFA AFRI project “Building Trust in Precision Livestock Farming Using Public Engagement Techniques,” which uses citizen juries, national surveys, and a consensus conference to understand how trust, fairness, and dialogue shape public views of PLF in the U.S. dairy and swine sectors. His earlier work examined how swine producers, veterinarians, and other industry stakeholders perceive and adopt PLF technologies.
