Are you new to showing livestock? Did you earn a spot in your county’s showmanship sweepstakes contest? Perhaps you’d simply like to sharpen your showmanship skills for a project you’ve been exhibiting for a few years now... Whatever the reason, Michigan State University Extension now has livestock showmanship guides available that were designed with you in mind!

Each guide goes into detail about considerations before the show, suggested attire and essential tools and equipment. The guides also offer tips on how to handle your animal during a showmanship class to help set you apart from your competitors. Lastly, each guide contains some sample questions the judge could ask you during your showmanship class, to help you prepare your answers in advance.

You can find all the guides on the 4-H Showmanship Guides webpage, or through these links:

In addition to the new livestock showmanship guides, there are also showmanship guides for horses, dairy cattle, rabbits, dogs and poultry – all available on the 4-H Showmanship Guides webpage.
