Land Manager                                                                                       

The land manager’s position consists of acquiring needed agricultural ground for biosolids application throughout a given area for BioTech operations. The Land Manager must communicate with customers, Director of Operations, BioTech crews, farmers, DEQ personnel, township and health officials, and others directly related to BioTech Agronomics, Inc. operations and the various stages of land management and planning. This position reports directly to the Director of Operations and works closely with the Compliance Manager.

This position requires an efficient, self-motivated, ethical, computer proficient, detail-oriented person with the ability to multitask in high pressure situations while meeting a variety of deadlines.

 

Job Description: 

The position of Land Manager requires a self-motivated, forward-thinking, efficiently assertive person.  The duties are unlimited and demanding.  Basic responsibilities are listed as follows.

  • Work diligently with the Operations Manager about the upcoming job schedule and land availability.
  • Update the management team daily of progress made.
  • Locate and obtain permission slips from not only the farmer, but also the landowner of the best possible land for the proper disposal of biosolids.
  • Evaluate sites for access, elevation changes and suitability for the land application process.
  • Contact landowners and/or farmers (cold calling).
  • Maintain and grow the land database throughout the state.
  • Build and maintain quality relationships with farmers and landowners.
  • Build and maintain quality relationships with EGLE and WWTP facility staff.
  • Obtain soil samples and interpret results.
  • Generate required reports for land application (i.e., Site I.D.s, notification letters, and EGLE permits).
  • Maintain data base of available fields for varying weather conditions.
  • Establish appropriate agronomic rates for land applications based off the correct crop information and yield goals intended for the next crop.
  • If needed, sample biosolids for analytical testing and determine agronomic rates.
  • Flag fields for setbacks (i.e. houses, wells, wetlands, etc.)
  • Assist crews with mobilization, work in field when necessary.
  • Assist in generating year-end reports for EGLE reporting purposes.
  • Able to handle sensitive and confidential information and understand how to appropriately use discretion with said information.
  • Knowledge of company safety procedures and ability to help crews maintain these.
  • Must fully understand processes and procedures of the business.
  • Call mechanics when heading back to office to see if they need parts picked up.
  • Attend continuing education seminars.
  • Attend conferences for promoting business development and public relations.
  • Work closely with Director of Operations and Crew Leaders for scheduling and application efficiency.
  • Maintain efficiency and promote fiscal responsibility in planning and job coordination.
  • Attain an understandable working knowledge of Michigan Part 24 and Federal 503 rules assuring proper management practices are carried out accordingly.
  • Comprehension of all RMP’s and AUA’s to achieve compliance in all areas.
  • Maintain the assigned company vehicle. The vehicle is to be kept clean to maintain a professional appearance.
  • Work the hours necessary to keep the crews working, to the best of your ability, no matter the time of year or the weather.

These duties may be increased or reassigned from time to time depending on the responsible person’s workload and ability.
