The Michigan State University (MSU) Department of Forestry is excited to announce a new undergraduate exchange program, partnering with the University of Eastern Finland (UEF). A small group of forestry students from MSU will travel to Finland to study forestry for a semester, while a similar group of forestry students from UEF will join the MSU forestry program in the U.S. for a semester.
UEF Forest Sciences and MSU Forestry share many values, strong core forestry programs, and complementarity in specialized areas of forestry. Both institutions emphasize:
- The vital role of forests and interdisciplinary solutions to global sustainability challenges.
- International experiences as transformative to personal growth and scientific progress.
- The importance of forests in providing a wide range of ecosystem services to humanity (e.g., products, climate regulation, recreation and wellness, and biodiversity).
- Practical experience in managing forest resources sustainably.
- Student-centered and immersive field-based learning.
- Teaching that is informed by current research from research- active faculty.
