Course Description

Ecological interactions crucial to the sustainable management of forest ecosystems. Plant resources, species interactions, succession, biodiversity, productivity, nutrient and carbon cycling, ecosystem structure and function, exotic species, global environmental change.

 

Course Learning Objectives

  1. Hands-on demonstration and exploration of how climate, landform, soils and disturbance interact to shape the composition, structure, function and successional dynamics of forest ecosystems. 
  2. Develop and strengthen skills in forest stand assessment and ecological interpretation. 
  3. Hands on demonstration and exploration of soil properties and processes and their influence on growing conditions for trees in rural and urban forests 
  4. Reinforce and strengthen skills in data collection, data calculations, data visualization and data interpretation that you have learned in FOR 222 and FOR 128.
  5. Practice and strengthen technical writing skills 
  6. Practice and strengthen skills in proofreading and editing technical documents
