Are you interested in natural resources, science, and public policy? The Glassen Scholars Program and the Demmer Scholars Program are open to Michigan State University students in any major. These programs are administered by the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Glassen Scholars Program

The Hal and Jean Glassen Scholars Program offers undergraduate students exposure to policy-making in Michigan. Students gain real-world experience through paid internships with a natural resource or environmental organization in the Greater Lansing area. The experience is complemented by a weekly evening seminar and educational field trips throughout the summer. 

The 2027 Glassen Scholars Program will run from May 17 - August 17, 2027. Application deadline: Friday, January 8, 2027 at 11:59 PM.

William A. Demmer Scholars Program

Upper-level undergraduate and graduate students in the William A. Demmer Scholars Program are paid interns at federal agencies or non-governmental organizations in Washington, D.C., that focus on natural resources. Students also take a senior-level class in natural resources policy that meets one night a week and all day Saturday.

The program is led by Emily Silver, Associate Chairperson, Director of Graduate Studies, and Associate Professor, Human Dimensions of Forestry in the MSU Department of Forestry.

Mississippi State University, University of Montana and SUNY-Syracuse students, please follow the deadlines outlined in the communication sent by your Demmer Scholars Program Coordinator.
